Apple is known for restricting streaming apps and services so the news that Game Pass Ultimate subscribers can now stream titles from the Game Pass library may come as a shock.

Up until now, Apple users had to go through the Safari browser to access the Xbox Cloud Gaming library and stream the games, but now the struggle is over.

Xbox Cloud Gaming is officially available on Apple

Xbox Cloud Gaming is officially available on Apple

According toApple’s latest announcement, the Cupertino giant is opening it’s doors to streaming game services and apps.

Today, Apple is introducing new options for how apps globally can deliver in-app experiences to users, including streaming games and mini-programs. Developers can now submit a single app with the capability to stream all of the games offered in their catalog.

Another interesting turnout is that although Apple complied with the EU’s DMA, it will still get a cut from the in-app purchases, including from mini-apps, mini-games, chatbots and plugins.

Other streaming apps will also benefit from this move

Another great news is that not only Xbox Cloud Gaming will benefit from this addition, but also NVIDIA GeForce Now subscribers. They will have their own official app to access the games from their catalog.

Although, there’s a small catch. Apple will finally allow other publishers to regulate the games on their apps which is a big step forward to open the market:

Each experience made available in an app on the App Store will be required to adhere to all App Store Review Guidelines and its host app will need to maintain an age rating of the highest age-rated content included in the app.

Still, the publishers will have to file in certifications for iOS, but it’s still a small price to pay to get into the Apple Store.

Epic Games also announced that it will launch an iOS app to provide access for their subscribers and the ball will hopefully roll pretty fast to all the other publishers.
