The world of AI is constantly evolving at a pace much higher than many had initially predicted. It can be attributed to the growing user interest and the massive opportunities for application. And it’s the image generation capabilities that’s got us hooked.
Now, Apple has come up with a new AI image tool that allows you to edit images simply using text prompts. It can be used to add effects, change colours, modify shapes, add/remove objects, and a lot more!
All about Apple’s new AI image tool, MGIE
CalledMLLM-Guided Image EditingorMGIE, the new AI tool is currently only available for download on the open-source developer platformGitHub.
The ability to edit images using text-based prompts is either altogether missing or not well-developed on other AI-based models. For instance,Microsoft Copilotallows making slight changes to images.
But with Apple’s MGIE model, you can do a lot more. For instance, you could add toppings to a pizza. A group of researchers for aresearch paperprompted the AI model to make a pizza look more healthy, and it generated one with tomatoes and herbs.
In another image, it was able to change the content displayed on a laptop’s screen. Similarly, it could perform tasks otherwise intended for Adobe Photoshop oradvanced photo editing applications, such as removing people or objects from an image or changing the focus.
So far, Apple has been away from the AI space, unlike other companies like OpenAI, Google, Microsoft, and Meta. As it turns out,Microsoft has bigs plans for integrating AI.
But with the MGIE model, the California-based tech giant is expected to turn a lot of heads.
There has been no official confirmation yet as to when the MGIE model will be officially rolled out and whether it will be introduced in Apple’s native devices, namely, MacBooks, iPads, and iPhones.
So, it’s a wait-and-watch situation for now. In the meanwhile, others like Microsoft, Google, and Meta can deploy a similar model to retain their existing user base.
