For the past few months, rumours were rife about Microsoft dropping development and support forHalo: The Master Chief Collectionafter an image was posted by a343developer online. The image in question showed a plaque and aThank Youcard.
The date on the plaque intrigued many. It read,Finished The Fight. Halo: The Master Chief Collection 11/2014 – 07/2023. Soon, the same was shared by several developers on their officialX(formerly Twitter) handles.
As it turns out, these rumours were true!
Rebs Gaming, in aYouTube video, confirms, through sources, that Microsoft has stopped development forHalo: The Master Chief Collection.
The two primary reasons cited behind the decision to halt development are the lack of a revenue stream and an impending economic recession. The game does feature a built-in store but since it relies on in-game currency, profitability remained a concern.
Microsoft, in May last year, first shared the decision with the developers and expressed its inability to renew the contracts. Then, sometime around mid-July, the contracts ended and were never renewed, thus finally putting a stop toHalo: The Master Chief Collection’sdevelopment.
This was also the time we saw the last major content update. Since then, there haven’t been any!
Will Halo: The Master Chief Collection still be available?
As per the report byRebs Gaming, a few full-time developers continue to work onHalo: The Master Chief Collectionto ensure optimal functionality and deliver minor updates to the collection.
Also, there’s a chance of the collection being revived sometime down the line, either through a collaboration betweenMicrosoftand343 Industriesor individually by the latter, if a viable revenue stream can be generated. So, all hope is not lost!
If the companies are looking for a revival, it’s critical to polish the collection and eliminate all existing bugs, primarily the ones responsible forHalo MCC not loading.
