Helldivers 2 was recently released to Microsoft Windows PCs and PlayStation 5, and the third-person shooter has already been incredibly successful: it sold more than 1 million copies in less than 3 days, and it was positively received by players, and critics alike.
Now, it seems that a big chunk of the gaming community everywhere would like Helldivers 2 on Xbox, and several gamers took the matter into their own hands, creatingpetitionsthat have managed to amass more than 20k signatures in less than 3 days.
OnReddit, gamers are begging Sony Interactive Entertainment, which is the publisher of the game, to bring Helldivers 2 to Xbox, as well.
The petitions to port the game to Xbox come in light of the Xbox executives agreeing that Xbox-exclusive will go multi-platform. After Xbox announcedPentinent and Hi-Fi Rushwould be the first exclusives to go multi-platform, the studio said other games such as Starfield, and Indiana Jones will be released on PlayStation at some point, in a decision to market Xbox games on other platforms.
Naturally, the gaming community is expecting Sony to make the same move, and release PlayStation games to Xbox, with the Helldivers 2 being one of them.
It’s worth mentioning, though, that Helldivers 2 might actually be released to Xbox sooner than expected, because the game is already available to Windows PCs.
Gamers believe that with this game coming to Xbox, the exclusivity in the video game industry could reach an end, and this will only benefit gamers, with the petition saying:
The significance of Helldivers 2 extending its reach to Xbox cannot be overstated. It symbolizes a departure from the exclusivity-driven mentality that has fueled the console wars for decades. Instead, it embraces a vision of gaming that celebrates diversity and collaboration across platforms. By making Helldivers 2 available to Xbox players, PlayStation can take a bold step towards dismantling the barriers that have long divided the gaming community.
However, it’s worth mentioning that not all gamers feel the same. When the rumors of Starfield being ported to PlayStation started going around, many Xbox lovers felt betrayed by Microsoft’s decision to do so, withmany statingthat owning an Xbox now feels useless, especially after buying one to play this game.
So, while non-exclusivity means more gamers will be able to enjoy video games everywhere, those who are fans of a certain console don’t agree with it. For now, Xbox is bent on making its games multi platform. We’ll see about Sony.
