Bloomberg reports that the Activision department inside Microsoft is currently negotiating some changes that would give Call of Duty League team owners a greater share of revenue and multiple other benefits, such as fewer restrictions on sponsorships.

The negotiations follow the sue one former Call of Duty League team owner initiated against Activision, earlier this month, claiming, according to the publication, that the company had an unlawful monopoly, seeking $680 million in damages.

The former Call of Duty League team owner said that Activision was limiting sponsorship opportunities, and these actions were financially devastating for the teams. Activision, on the other hand, began to reorganize Call of Duty leagues, announcing the outsourcing of a new version of the Overwatch League to ESL FACEIT Group, effectively cutting 15% of staff.

Now, multiple sources have announced that Activision is going through negotiations with Call of Duty League team owners, however, since the discussions are not public, we don’t know exactly what the team owners will get from this deal.

But, as Esports are slowly becoming more and more popular, but less streamed (this is also due to many Twitch streamers, which is another form of popular entertainment) these rules are only for the better. Activision, which is Call of Duty games, is one of the world’s biggest enablers of Esports.

If the rules are changed now, then the current team owners will have the assurance that the future of Call of Duty-related competitions will be good for those seeking to make a career out of these competitions. The future team owners will be fairly compensated and will be able to close multiple sponsorship deals with a variety of partners.

We’ll have to see if Activision decides to go public with the discussions or announce the outcome of the negotiations, but both parties should come to a conclusion in the following weeks.

Activision Blizzard King was acquired by Microsoftlast October, and ever since, the company has been making changes to the availability of its games. For instance, Diablo 4 will soon come to Xbox Game Pass, whileXbox exclusives will no longer be exclusives, as they will be released on rival platforms, as well.

Nonetheless, it’s quite an interesting period for the gaming industry, but what do you think?
