Starting in February 2024, Microsoft Viva users will have access to code snippets in almost every place within the platform, according to the latest entry in theMicrosoft 365 Roadmap. These code snippets will be a time saver for a lot of users, especially IT professionals and coders on the platform.

The feature can be accessed on almost every Microsoft Viva functionality, including posts, discussions, polls, and other fields within the platform, as Microsoft states:

Users will be able to add code snippets to their posts, discussions, replies, questions, polls, and praises on Viva Engage. Additionally, if customers are licensed for Answers in Viva Engage, this feature will also be available when asking questions on Answers. To add code snippets, locate the new button on the publisher toolbar.

The feature will be added to the platform in February 2024, and it will be available everywhere.

How useful are the code snippets in Microsoft Viva?

How useful are the code snippets in Microsoft Viva?

First of all, Microsoft Viva is a platform meant for professional collaboration, teamwork, and work management. To further enhance teamwork and collaboration, Microsoft added features such asthe AI-enhanced summarization, back in December 2023.

The code snippets feature will be an easy way to quickly pin short passages of code in meetings, chats, and polls so that other users can see and react to them. This way, the feature will not only save a lot of time, but it will be quite useful in multiple situations.

And since collaboration is a big goal for Microsoft, this feature will also emphasize collaboration between the software developers of a company, and not only them.

Being able to quickly showcase a code snippet with a few lines of code for a specific command, where the other developers can take a look, and validate it with a simple copy/paste would surely be a big plus for collaborative work.

And finally, Microsoft is making this feature easy to use. While we don’t know what it will look like, the Redmond-based tech giant says the feature will have a special button on the publisher toolbar, so it will be easy to find and use.

What do you think about it?
