After much furore about Edge stealing Chrome tabs, Microsoft finally released a fix in version121.0.2277.128onFebruary 15, 2024.
We previously reported howEdge opens all Chrome tabswhen you boot the PC. The issue has been present for the last few months, though not everyone was affected. Many pointed it out inMicrosoft forumsas well asReddit.
Now, while releasing the fix in Edge version121.0.2277.128, Microsoft has clarified that theImport browser datasetting’s state might not have been syncing across devices, and, as a result, it opened tabs from other browsers.
To download the patch, openMicrosoft Edge> click the ellipsis near the top right > selectSettings> go toAbout Microsoft Edge> wait for the browser to install the latest version.
While Microsoft called it a problem with the browser, many believe that it was one of Microsoft’s tactics to get users to switch to Edge because, at present, it is way behind Chrome. As perStatcounter, Chrome commands64.38%of the market, while Edge stands at5.35%.
Whatever the case, this is done and dusted. The fix is out, and Microsoft Edge will no longer take up your Chrome tabs without explicit permissions on any device!
