Firefox has always been an alternative browser, always living in the shadow of Chrome, but that is slowly changing.

It seems that Firefox is gaining more users in Europe, so let’s see what’s the reason behind this.

Firefox usage is up in Germany and France thanks to the DMA

Firefox usage is up in Germany and France thanks to the DMA

The Digital Markets Act in the EU aims to limit the power of big tech companies and prevent monopolies from creating.

Microsoft has complied with DMA, allowing its users to now easily remove Edge from Windows. As a result,Brave downloads went up 37.5%, but that’s not all.

Both Apple and Microsoft are affected by DMA, andaccording to The Verge, Firefox saw an increase in usage after Apple allowed users to choose their default browser.

According to Firefox spokesperson Christopher Hilton, Firefox has 50% more users in Germany and almost 30% in France. Here’s what he had to say:

Despite less than ideal compliance, the recent implementation of the DMA choice screen is a promising step toward true competition online in the EU… Still, there is a lot of room for improvement, and we’ll continue to fight for a web that puts people over profits, prioritizes privacy and is open and accessible to all.

This is great news for all Firefox users, and we can’t wait to see how the browser market share will change following this change.
