Opera GX, a dedicated gaming browser, came up with its own unique way to celebrate April Fools’ Day this year.

In apost on X(formerly Twitter), Opera GX announced replacing the browser’s icon with that of a cat for eight random users worldwide. There’s no clarity as to why they chose this picture or eight users for the campaign.

What initially caught everyone’s attention was the image’s file name,glorp. Also, for the lucky users who were selected, the app listedglorpinstead of Opera GX as its name, with the new image in place.

This got everyone talking about the $GLORP cat crypto coin on the Solana blockchain, although there’s no official confirmation that Opera GX’s prank has anything to do with the blockchain ecosystem. Be wary and verify if someone tells you so!

Within hours, one of the userscame toXto enquire why his Opera GX app icon turned into a cat. And the browser’s official handle was quick to point this out.

And this is where the fun began!

Companies join in, a few promote Opera GX while others get free promotion

The first user, Opera GX acknowledged was selected for the prank, hadTeamSpeakinstalled, as evident from the shared screenshot. For the unversed,TeamSpeakis aVoIP software used by gamersto communicate with one another. Discord’s popularity took away a large chunk ofTeamSpeak’suser base.

Without wasting any time, TeamSpeak joined the fun prank anddropped a comment.

Soon,Voicemod, avoice-changing software, hopped the prank train afterTeamSpeakanddropped a comment, too.

Gen-Z publisher,Pubity, too, wondered aboutglorp, which started off another series of discussions regarding the possibilities.

More brands are expected to join the April Fool’s campaign, which will go on for another few hours.

Most comments were from users who wanted to be a part of the prank and were feeling left out.

Others had a hilarious take on the prank or dropped their suggestions to Opera GX.
