Microsoft announced the Azure Migrate tool will now incorporate GitHub Copilot Chat, providing tailored guidance and enabling users to engage in conversations about the identified issues.

This update comes a month after the release of the Azure Migrate application and code assessment for .NET, which is accessible as a Visual Studio extension.

In the announcement, Microsoft mentioned:

When you look at the report dashboard, you will notice that there’s now a list of recommended next steps. If you have VS’s GitHub Copilot Chat extension installed, there will be a button to open Copilot Chat.

When you click the button, Copilot Chat will review your report, summarize the most important issues, and begin a conversation about how to address them. If you don’t have the GitHub Copilot Chat extension installed, there will be a message in this location explaining that additional functionality will be available if you install it.

On the dashboard, you get theOpen chatbutton; for each issue in the reports, you get anAsk Copilotbutton. You can click this button to initiate a new chat with Copilot, which can help you explain the issue & give solutions to address the problem.

You get to ask Copilot follow-up questions and get guidance to fix the problem according to your situation.

To get the Open chat button and Ask Copilot button on the Azure Migrate tool, you need to install the GitHub Copilot Chat extension in Visual Studio.

Microsoft also warns that if you click Ask Copilot, it will share the issue description and code snippet, which caused the issue with GitHub Copilot Chat.

This warning is mentioned to make users aware that Copilot Chat needs this information to provide better guidance, and the user should only use the Ask Copilot option if they are comfortable sharing the code snippets with Copilot Chat.
