Google is working diligently on its AI service, and as you may know,Gemini is now available in Chrome search. However, that’s not the only change.

The company is making some adjustments regarding how Gemini generates historical images after recent criticism.

Gemini puts image generation of people on hold due to historical inaccuracy

Gemini puts image generation of people on hold due to historical inaccuracy

As reported byThe Register, it seems that Gemini doesn’t allow users to generate images of people anymore.

This move comes after harsh criticism regarding historically inaccurate images representing people. While trying to be inclusive during the image generation process, Gemini has produced some highly inaccurate historical images thus sparking criticism.

This was acknowledged by the CEO of Google DeepMind stating that this feature isn’t working properly and that it will be down for a couple of weeks while the issue gets resolved.

Google’s SVP Prabhakar Raghavan also commented on the issue:

First, our tuning to ensure that Gemini showed a range of people failed to account for cases that should clearly not show a range.

And second, over time, the model became way more cautious than we intended and refused to answer certain prompts entirely — wrongly interpreting some very anodyne prompts as sensitive.

As a result, the service generated services that the spokesperson called “embarrassing and wrong”.

For the time being, Gemini is unable to generate images of people, but other aspects of the service are still working properly, and we hope that Google will soon address this issue.

This isn’t the only service that Google is working on, and we might soon seeGemini Business and Gemini Enterprise, so stay tuned for more news.
