Key notes

We’ve got to be honest with you. For now,you can’t delete your Threads account without deleting your Instagram profile. We don’t make the rules. Instagram does. Here are the words of Adam Mosseri, Instagram CEO, on this:

I’ve been getting some questions about deleting your account. To clarify, you can deactivate your Threads account, which hides your Threads profile and content, you can set your profile to private, and you can delete individual threads posts – all without deleting your Instagram account. Threads is powered by Instagram, so right now it’s just one account, but we’re looking into a way to delete your Threads account separately.

Threads is currently riding a high wave of popularity. The app has grabbed more than 100 million usersin less than a week. It also seems to be on par with Twitter, and might even dominate the market share in the following weeks. But it’s not without controversy, though. The app is not available in Europe, due to the fact that it might be too intrusive when it comes to personal data.

That’s why it’s natural if you created a Threads profile and now you want to delete it. Your privacy comes first. However, as we mentioned earlier, you cannot really delete your Threads without deleting your Instagram. However, Meta is working to solve this.

You can, however, do other things, such hiding your Threads account. And we’re going to show you how to do that.

Please remember that your Threads account is linked to your Instagram account, so that means you can unlink it. But you can hide your Threads.

Hiding the badge will make your Threads account invisible to others, so that’s the only solution for now. However, if you want a radical solution and you want to delete your Threads for good, then you should delete your Instagram account.

Now your Threads account is gone, but so is your Instagram. However, remember that Meta is currently working on a feature to let you deactivate your Threads account separately. We will keep this article updated, once the feature is out, so bookmark this article.
