Many users are running Windows 11 on Linux, and if you’re one of them, we have some good news for you.
It seems that Windows 11 virtual machines will have better performance on Linux systems that are running on Intel’s CPUs. Here’s what you need to know.
Intel is bringing Thread Director support for Windows 11 VMs on Linux
According to thepublic inbox, it seems that Intel is working on bringing support for Intel Thread Director to Guest systems on Linux.
The company plans to achieve this via patch and enable the ITD-based scheduling logic to the Guest system thus boosting its performance. So how of a performance boost can we expect?
According to Intel, we can expect a significant boost, and they achieved a 14%+ performance boost in 3DMARK.
Note that this feature will require certain features such as HWP, and CPPC, but they can be emulated from the VM.
This patch is coming to Intel 12th Gen or newer CPUs, but we don’t have any information about its release.
While many Linux users might be excited about this patch, you should keep in mind that thelatest Windows updates have issues with older Intel CPUs, so maybe you should put updating on hold for a while.
