According to Intel’slatest Linux Code patches, the company is developing new cores and two new CPU families: Adams Lake Client and Cooper Forest Server chips.
Both new families, Adams Lake and Cooper Forest, have been defined with new core architectures. As the image shows, Adams Lake will feature Douglas Cove P-Core architecture, and Cooper Forest will include the new Sheldonmont E-Core architecture.
However, it is not clear which CPU families these two will replace. So far, we know that Panther Lake is the successor to Arrow Lake and Lunar Lake, and there are also talks about Nova Lake being the successor to Panther Lake.
The new families may show up under the new Family ID around 2027. Adding up new families could be Intel’s attempt to replace its Family 6 CPU name, which has been around since the 1990s.
However, the Intel Family 6 IDs will be present for a few more years as Clearwater Forest and Lunar Lake are using them.
