Microsoft has added the Windows Copilot AI tool to the Photos App in Windows 11, and it is capable of searching for favorite images, as well as creating a slideshow of the images available on the Windows device.

According to insider@PhantomOfEarth, who also spotted the new Photos App capability, Copilot is available with app version 2024.11030.22001.0.

Besides its slideshow creation capabilities, Copilot in Microsoft Photos is also capable of changing the users’ desktop background, as far as the insider experimented with it.

The Redmond-based tech giant is known for adding AI capabilities to the native Windows apps, so Copilot coming to the Photos app wouldn’t be a first. For instance, last year, Microsoft Paint got the Cocreator AI, which is a sort of Copilot that comes up with AI-generated art that is quite stunning,as per our account.

Notepad also received the Cowriter tool, and it helps Windows users with composing, creating, and editing passages of text.This one is also quite useful, and quite easy to set up, as well.

So, as we mentioned, Copilot in Photos is not surprising. On the opposite, it was expected for the app to get AI capabilities, since Microsoft is slowly moving the whole Windows experience into AI territory. For now, its capabilities are quite rudimental, with basic options to create slideshows or search for certain images.

However, it would be quite useful if Microsoft updated the tool to actually come up with editing options: an AI-based kind of Photoshop? Why not? Should we expect one, eventually? Definitely, yes.

As we said, the Redmond-based tech giant is trying to shift the focus to AI, as it prepares to introduce the world to its AI-based Windows.
