Nvidia and Microsoft had a rocky history, and recently, thetwo companies announced that they are ending their partnershipand that Microsoft won’t rely on Nvidia hardware moving forward.
However, it seems that this has been a rash decision, and according to the latest news, it seems that the two companies will continue their collaboration after all.
Microsoft will use Nvidia Grace Blackwell superchips on Azure
We were expectingNvidia to announce new AI processors during the AI developer conference, and this is exactly what happened,according to TweakTown.
The company has announced a with 208 billion transistors and 192GB of HBM3E memory.
This GPU will use a TSMC 4NP process that will allow real-time generative AI on trillion-parameter large language models. The new GPU will also have 25 times lower cost and energy consumption than its predecessor.
Lastly, there’s also a 1.8TB/s bidirectional throughput per GPU, that will ensure outstanding performance.
Blackwell is certainly an amazing chip, so it’s no surprise that Microsoft decided to use these superchips on Microsoft Azure.
NVIDIA Grace Blackwell superchips will be used by Microsoft 365, while NVIDIA Triton Inference Server will power Copilot for Microsoft 365.
Microsoft’s Satya Nadella said the following:
From bringing the GB200 Grace Blackwell processor to Azure to new integrations between DGX Cloud and Microsoft Fabric, the announcements we are making today will ensure customers have the most comprehensive platforms and tools across every layer of the Copilot stack, from silicon to software, to build their breakthrough AI capability.
Microsoft is one of the first companies to bring NVIDIA Grace Blackwell GB200 and NVIDIA Quantum-X800 InfiniBand to its cloud-based platform, and we’re certain that others will follow suit.
This is amazing news, and we’re positive that this collaboration will make Azure and other Microsoft services better than ever before.
