Microsoft released the latest update patch to Edge Dev and the build 124.0.2438.2 comes with many quality improvements, including fixes for issues that cause the browser to stop functioning when switching accounts, or adding new websites.

The build adds new action features in Adobe Viewer, and while it also brings dozens of changes to improve the overall stability of the browser, Microsoft has apparently forgotten to fix a persistent bug: the hardware acceleration issue that causes Edge to malfunction when enabled.

The issue was spotted by several users, and some of them even left comments on the blog post, commenting that before Microsoft even thinks about improving Edge, the company needs to take care of fundamental issues like this one:

This build seems to be really crash-happy. It’s prone to suddenly freezing up for a few seconds then silently crashing, and sometimes it would also bring Outlook with it. This happens especially often when there is a video playing in a tab somewhere.

After a few more crashes, I found that the GPU process is the cause. Turning off hardware acceleration stops this so that’s what needs to be fixed.

Other users agreed, with many stating that the browser keeps freezing for them, as well. So despite the dozens of improvements, which you can check out in detail below, you’ll need to consider this issue if you’re thinking about installing the latest 124.0.2438.2 build.

Edge Dev 123was recently released, but that build failed to address this annoying bug, even though it came with dozens of fixes.
