Microsoft is debutinga new lookfor OneDrive for personal users, and it’s set to roll out in February. The new look comes with a lot of perks for users, including a more intuitive UI, a revamped and enhanced Add new button, and filtering options.
However, according to the latest entry in theMicrosoft 365 Roadmap, OneDrive will also debut a new empty state in the platform, that will look like real images you would upload, but they’re just placeholders for the images you’re going to upload.
Makes sense? Well, in better words: Microsoft wants to encourage users to upload images to OneDrive by showing them how these images are going to look on the platform’s homepage once they’re uploaded.
I mean, who doesn’t want to customize their OneDrive homepage, but this feature could end up being confusing for a lot of users. Here’s how Microsoft describes it:
You will see new and improved images and text in various views on OneDrive for Web when there are no files associated with those views. These images will appear in new OneDrive accounts that have no stored files, and they may appear in existing OneDrive accounts that have no recent, favorited, shared, or recycled files. As an example, if you have no favorited files, you will see an image of a star with text that reads “Items you favorite will show up here.”
Why would this feature be confusing? Well, many users could end up thinking someone messed up with their OneDrive accounts, or their account has been hacked, due to placeholder images showing up in the homepage.
Yes, it might be a possibility, and we’ll have to wait until this feature properly rolls out to see exactly how these images will look, but it does sound a bit confusing.
