The initial vision of .NET9 is set to be released later this year, according to the latest Microsoft Devblogs post, which also documents a first preview of the new version of the open-source development platform.
What to expect from Microsoft.NET9? In shorter terms, developers should expect increased OpenAI integration, and the usage of AI tools to create and develop apps, as well as many tools for cloud-native developers.
The platform will continue its cloud integration by giving cloud-native developers both a platform, and the tools to do so. More specifically, Microsoft.NET9 will integrate Azure Container Apps and Kubernetes-based environment to allow developers to lay the foundation for cloud-based apps.
Our Azure Container Apps partners will ensure that .NET 9 apps can be scaled to multiple instances easily within their Kubernetes-based environment. We’re working with them to ensure that ephemeral data – like anti-forgery and auth tokens – are encrypted correctly usingData Protectionand that rate limiting APIs are improved to ensure optimal behavior for and across each node.
New deployment experiences for .NET Aspire are set to be integrated into Visual Code, and Visual Studio with the release of .NET9, which also enhances and improves the deployment of cloud-based apps.
Visual Studio and Visual Studio Code will include new development and deployment experiences for .NET Aspire. This will include configuring components, debugging (including hot-reload) the AppHost and child processes, and fully integrating with the developer dashboard. Developers will be able to deploy their projects to Azure Container Apps, from Visual Studio, Visual Studio Code, and with Azure Developer CLI (azd).
Developers will also have increased access to AI tools to use in developing apps, with .NET9 allowing faster and easier access to OpenAI tools, such as documentation and libraries.
Looking ahead towards .NET 9, we are committed to making it even easier for .NET developers to integrate artificial intelligence into their existing and new applications. Developers will find great libraries and documentation for working with OpenAI and OSS models (hosted and local), and we’ll continue collaborating on Semantic Kernel, OpenAI, and Azure SDK to ensure that .NET developers have a first-class experience building intelligent applications.
And for those who want to preview the new .NET9, Microsoft is now letting them download ithere, along with .NET Aspire Preview 3, which can checked outhere.
