Microsoft had a quiet 2023 when it came to rolling out first party hardware from its Surface division but 2024 appears to be loaded with events as early as March.
According tothe folks over at Windows Central, Microsoft has set a tentative internal date of March 21, 2024, for the first of what could be several Surface hardware events for the year.
Writer Zac Bowden, who has a pretty great track record when it comes to coaxing Surface news from Microsoft sources, believes that the company is primed to deliver commercial versions of the Surface Pro and Laptop dubbed the Surface Pro 9+ and Surface Laptop 5+ that maintain “current in-market designs,” with a narrow array of features “designed for commercial customers.”
While the design language of the Surface Pro 9+ and the Surface Laptop 5+will be roughly unchanged, there are some subtle changes that will accompany the devices in March that include an anti-reflective display, modern NFC reader technology, and support for Microsoft’s new AI-led Windows Studio Effects thanks in part to Intel’s 14th Gen chips supporting dedicated AI NPUs.
Bowden’s claims have been further buttressed by reliable Twitter sluether @WalkingCat with the following tweet.
As it wasreported last month, a secondary event will host the consumer coveted Surface Pro 10 and Surface Laptop 6 with their modern designs, support for ARM chips, and the next gen version of Windows known as Windows Germanium the enable a host of new AI features specific to the hardware.
Bowden has updated his previous claims as he continues to speak with people close to the matter and it now looks as though that secondary Microsoft event will be in June and be the one that host the newer designed hardware of the Surface Pro 10 and Surface Laptop 6, and there could be a potential later third release date for an updated Surface Laptop Go 4.
