PocketPair has no desire to develop AAA games or become a big game studio, down the road, says Takuro Mizobe, its CEO and founder in an interview for Bloomberg. Mizote wants to keep the 55-person studio as it is and focus on developing smaller games.

We are and will remain a small studio. I want to make multiple small games. Big-budget triple-A games are not for us.

The studio launched Palworld back in January 2024, and the game was an instant success, amassing more than 7 million players in its first days, and getting to an impressive 25 million players a month after its release.

The game, is a Microsoft exclusive, meaning only Windows and Xbox users can play it, is also a huge success for the Redmond-based tech giant, as well, and Palworld actually was at the forefront ofa business strategy meeting, last month.

Despite its ties with Microsoft, PocketPair is not getting acquired by the tech giant, even though the Redmond-based tech giant has a well-known history of acquiring game studios (the ABK acquisition, for instance, last year, was the biggest ever in the industry).

Mizobe, however, is open to talking about it, according to the interview given toBloomberg. He also stated that he could see PocketPair being in a partnership with other video game companies, or even an acquisition as a whole. But the studio will keep making smaller games if an acquisition ever happens.

PocketPair also wants to release Palworld to other platforms, possibly PlayStation and Nintendo, but this is still an ongoing talk; it would be interesting, though, to see how Microsoft will react to it, as the game is still enjoying massive success.

Palworld has also brought PocketPair some controversies, as the company is currently under investigation by The Pokemon Company, as the latter says the former might have infringed copyrights: the Pals are similar to the Pokemon.

Well, Palworld has been called by critics Pokemon with guns, so there you go!

Are you playing Palworld? Do you like it?
