The original preview edition of the Microsoft OS/2 2.0 was recently soldon eBayat a staggeringly low price of $650, from its initial price of $2600. Described as being ultra-rare, this edition of the Microsoft operating system would make every Microsoft (and technology) collector proud and excited.
Even if you wouldn’t pay $600 for it (not to mention the initial $2600), plenty of individuals in the world would do it, as the preview edition of Microsoft OS/2 2.0 is no longer available.
The operating system was sold with multiple documents and developing kits such as dozens of floppy disks. It would not be installable, of course, as you would need a PC from 1990 for this to work, however, sold as a history artifact, in time, this could become far more valuable than it is now.
Microsoft co-developed the OS/2 2.0 together with IBM, andaccording to reports, it didn’t sell well, and it was not commercially successful.
In 1990, the Redmond-based tech giant would go on to develop Windows 3 on its own, and let the OS/2 2.0 behind. Windows 3 proved to be commercially successful, selling over 10 million copies, and 34 years after its release,the operating system is still used in the world, believe it or not.
The OS/2 2.0 was soon forgotten for a while, and IBM ended up delaying its release in 1992. However, there were dozens of preview versions of this operating system, with this one being one of them.
The seller on eBay bid it at an initial $2600, but the price eventually got lowered to $600, and the operating system was sold. However, eBay users agree that the seller is a genuine individual, so it might have access to other rare preview editions of old and forgotten Microsoft operating systems. If you’re a collector, it would be worth it to follow him.
