Big news to end the week: Microsoft released the first preview of the new Sticky Notes app for Windows, and it will allow users to capture screenshots of the apps, sites, or File Explorer tabs they’re using, aside from its existing text features.
Ina blog postpublished earlier today, the Redmond-based tech giant says the idea behind the new Sticky Notes app is that if you want to capture something as you go, Sticky Notes has to provide you with all the necessary tools:
Have you ever wished to capture a thought or idea in a meeting or conversation, but it passed too quickly? Do you need an easier way to pick up where you left off with notetaking when switching between tasks? These are the kinds of issues that we aim to help you solve with the new Sticky Notes app, while keeping things simple and intuitive.
For now, the new Sticky Notes app can be accessed through the OneNote app on Windows, but after opening it up from there, you can stick to Windows 11’s taskbar, for easier access.
Aside from the regular features such as changing the color of the text, or opening up multiple sticky notes, the new Sticky Notes app allows users to capture screenshots of the pages, tabs, and apps they’re on with a single click.
The best thing? The app will automatically link the screenshot to the source, and it will provide you with the link so you can access it anytime.
You can also dock the new Sticky Notes app similarly to Windows Copilot. And speaking of Copilot, it seems that the app won’t be getting AI features, but you can checkNotepadfor that, and it won’t be turned into a web app, somethingwe speculated it might.
No, the new Sticky Notes remained the same Sticky Notes but beefier now, with actual useful features.
The new Sticky Notes app is available to users running OneNote on Windows Version 2402 (Build 17328.20000) or later, keep in mind that the rollout of the new app is gradual, so it’s possible you might not have access to it right away.
