For many of us, Sticky Notes has been the go-tonote-takingapp on Windows. The post-it note style design makes it easy to use. And finally, Sticky Notes has confirmed that a newer version is on the way!

Ina postonX(formerly Twitter), Sticky Notes announced that a new version will be released, though, so far, there has been no official confirmation on the release date. The tweet also states that this will be one of the biggest announcements yet, hinting at significant changes to the app’s interface.

Also, to put an end to all speculations, Sticky Notes has confirmed that they are not releasing a web app, at least for now. The changes will be limited to the existing app that comes pre-installed on Windows PCs.

Frankly, this was long overdue, considering that Microsoft almost revamped most of the built-in apps after the release of the latest iteration, Windows 11. This includes the Notepad, Paint, and Task Manager, amongst others.

What is Microsoft planning to do with Sticky Notes?

As we mentioned earlier, users should be relieved, as Microsoft won’t turn one of its most popular apps into a web app. So what is Microsoft planning to do with Sticky Notes?

Our best guesses are the following: Sticky Notes might get a revamp and will also be enhanced with AI capabilities.

Some of the native Microsoft apps have been enhanced with AI capabilities, such asMicrosoft Paint, andNotepad, which leads us to think Sticky Notes would get some of the same features, one way or the other.

For now, Sticky Notes is popular due to its simplicity, and many users would love for it to stay that way. The AI additions could be integrated without having to disrupt the UI experience, and the revamp, while unnecessary, should follow the same patterns with a focus on being very easy to use.

At the same time, some users don’t seem too pleased. A few feel that Sticky Notes was one of the last untouched and it would have been better kept that way. Old habits die hard, you know!

It would certainly be better if the update is optional, though history tells us otherwise.

No matter the case, you will soon be able to use an upgraded version of Sticky Notes. For now, it’s a wait-and-watch situation!
