Those Windows 10 users who want to install the KB5034441 security update will fail to do so, due to the frustrating 0x80070643 error appearing at the beginning of the installation process.
KB5034441 which was released earlier this month, applies Safe OS Dynamic Update (KB5034232) to the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE) on a running PC to address a security vulnerability that could allow attackers to bypass BitLocker encryption by using WinRE,according to Microsoft.
However, many users encountered the 0x80070643 error which rendered their Windows 10 unable to install the security update.
After countless attempts to fix the issue, some Windows users found out that the error appeared when Windows detected insufficient free space in the recovery drive.
As recovery drives need to have at least 250 MB of free space, many users tried to allocate more space to these drives by using the method Microsoftreleased a while ago.
Using this method many users were able to fix the annoying issue and allow Windows 10 to install the KB5034441 security update, however, the fix is not generally working for everybody, and there are users who, despite following the fix step by step, were not able to fix the error.
I followed the instructions to resize Win RE. Goes as should but at the end list vol displays the partition is still its original size. Disk management shows 250mb I shrank off the primary volume at the end of the drive and the empty 529 at the start of the drive. They never combine. When in the steps to ID/Format the partition GPT format here, it only selects the same 529 leaving the 250 at the end, and I am back where I started. Not sure what I am missing here, thank you for your guidance.
What to do then? If you’re not a technical person, by any means, trying to implement the fix linked above, will be quite a challenge, and it might not even work at all.
Fortunately, Microsoft has already acknowledged the issue, and the Redmond-based tech giant will release a permanent solution to it in the following weeks, as it states in theofficial blog post.
Microsoft says users can safely ignore installing the KB5034441 update, especially if their Windows 10 devices don’t have a recovery partition. But if you want to install the update without waiting for the official solution, then you might want to check these threads,hereandhere.
