Windows 11 is now the OS of choice for 44.24% of Steam gamers, with a +2.29% growth in the Windows market since December 2023, according to thelatest surveyfrom the gaming platform. This percentage brings it closer to Windows 10, which at 51.43%, has experienced a -2.02% regress since December 2023.
These numbers effectively bring the two Windows versions closer, with Windows 11 surely rising to become to most popular OS for PC gamers in 2024, if the trend continues this way.
Windows 11 is seen as superior when it comes to gaming, and it especially makes Steam run faster and perform better, as you can see inour review.
So it shouldn’t come as a surprise that many PC gamers are starting to see its potential and migrate towards it. The OS is better at handling resources such as CPU, and GPU, along with RAM power to enhance gaming experiences.
Plus, Windows 11 also has theAuto HDR, and will soon get theAuto Super Resolution, which is set to take the gaming experience to a new level. The ASR feature will also make use of AI to selectively and carefully use resources to not drain the device.
Down the road, Windows 11 will most likely be updated to support thenew NPU processing algorithms, which could also come in useful for PC gamers, as it can improve performance and resource management all around.
So while the Steam survey still crowns Windows 10 as the most popular choice for PC gamers, its reign is set to end this year, most likely. However, Windows 10 is still a very popular operating system, and outside gaming, it’s the preferred OS.
Windows 11 is approaching the500 million users target, while Windows 10 has over 1 billion users worldwide.
Microsoft has been trying to boost Windows 11’s user number, but so far to no dominant avail. Instead, the Redmond-based tech giant has reverted some of its initial intentions:Copilotis now available on Windows 10, as well, and the company is extending its EOSby 3 more years, for a price.
But now, it seems that Windows 11 is on the right track: slowly, but surely it will surpass Windows 10, when it comes to gaming, at least.
