Windows Backupwas recently added by Microsoft to the Windows experience, and Windows 10, and Windows 11 devices are now prompted with the new menu that lets users choose the preferred files to transfer with them when they move to a new PC.
Users need to log into their Microsoft account, and the Redmond-based tech giant will take of the rest so that the experience of having the current operating system ported to another PC can go smoothly.
However, it seems thatthe latest Windows updatesare not also breaking the Windows taskbar and making the Start menu disappear on some PCs, but the updates are also hiding the Windows Backup app on Windows PCs joined to a business domain.
This is not entirely a bug, but rather a weird solution Microsoft implemented: Windows Backup is a system component, and it was released this way, back in 2023, which means newer Windows versions (of both Windows 11 and Windows 10) will automatically have the app installed, no matter the context.
Windows PCs joined to a business domain will have Windows Backup installed, but the app doesn’t work for obvious reasons (security & privacy of enterprise devices would be compromised).
Instead, Microsoft opted for a more subtle solution: these devices will automatically hide Windows Backup, so it app can’t be accessed, as it doesn’t show up at all.
The change was made with the release of the latest February updates, and users can’t find, nor access the app, as Windows Backup is not supported on these devices.
