WithMicrosoft going to end support for Windows 10onOctober 25, 2025, many of you must have been concerned about the available options. Ifupgrading to Windows 11doesn’t work for you, Google is offering ChromeOS Flex for free to anyone running Windows 10!
You will have a new operating system and, of course, a different interface, but at least the device will be protected and will receive security updates for years to come, which isn’t the case if you decide to continue with Windows 10.
What is ChromeOS Flex?
ChromeOS Flex is a cloud-first, easy-to-manage OS designed for low-end PCs, making it the perfect choice for devices that can’t run Windows 11 due to thesystem requirements.
It sports an easy-to-use interface, is highly secure, and is built for the future, meaning you won’t have to worry about switching operating systems for quite a few years. Besides, ChromeOS Flex will only get better with time!
The best part about ChromeOS Flex is that it’s not resource-extensive, meaning even PCs with low RAM and older processors can run smoothly.
However, there are a few drawbacks you should be aware of. You can’t install applications on ChromeOS Flex, either the ones for Windows or Android. Secondly, file management isn’t as seamless as Windows.
Google pushes ChromeOS Flex as a replacement for Windows 10
The move is seen as Google’s attempt to increase the user base of ChromeOS, which, presently, isn’t that popular. According toStatcounter, ChromeOS is installed on just1.76%of PCs worldwide, while Windows has a72.99%market share.
Google calls it an effort to reduce the e-waste that will be generated when millions of Windows 10 PCs lose OS support.
While theofficial blog post by Googletargets businesses and organizations, this is just as good an option for individual Windows 10 users!
If you plan oninstalling ChromeOS Flex to replace Windows, do it today or even right before theEnd of Support (EoS)for Windows 10. You won’t miss out on anything. But the sooner you do it, the earlier you will get used to the new OS.
Just make sure to verify that your PC is on the list ofdevices supported by ChromeOS Flex.
