Microsoft released theKB5035953patch to the Windows 11 Beta Channel, and it’s quite big. The patch introduceda new position of the Widgets boardin the left-aligned Windows 11 taskbar.
The build also updated Windows Share witha game-changer capability: users will be able to generate QR codes for URLs and cloud file links, allowing them to quickly access webpages and download files across and between desktop and mobile devices.
However, this is not all. Although not documented, it seems that theKB5035953patch also allows Windows users to move files in Windows 11 by simply dragging and dropping them in the File Explorer address bar, according to insider@PhantomOfEarth.
The latest Beta Channel build (22635.3420) adds file drag and drop to the modern File Explorer address bar! This functionality is gradually rolling out, and can be enabled by running:vivetool /enable /id:47664723pic.twitter.com/34KxfrQxDh
However, the capability is gradually rolling out, so it’s not available to everybody, but it can be enabled with the third-party ViveTool app by running this special command:
vivetool /enable /id:47664723
This makes moving files in Windows 11 a quick process, and users won’t have to right-click the file, select the Move option, and then paste it to the preferred location. As long as the preferred location is in the File Explorer address bar, it can be easily moved around.
Given that Windows 11’s File Explorer is tab-based, you can virtually have access to any folder that you want from the comfort of the address bar, so this capability is even more versatile.
Since it’s in the Beta channel, and undocumented, maybe Microsoft hasn’t intended to put it out just yet, so it might not see the light of day in the next weeks, but it will most likely be released with the Windows 11 2024 Update, which is coming later this year.
However, the capability is quite exciting. It allows for easier file management, and it’s intuitive, as well. We’re excited about it. How about you? What’s your opinion on this?
